Stormy seas all around on week six of 'The Bachelor'

Coming back in on the surprising detour from last week’s rose ceremony, we start back in with the girls all convinced Olivia’s going home after Ben pulls her aside and says that he thought she was having trouble connecting with them, but he’s not sure how true anything is anymore. He’s trying to understand and be neutral, so she plays the “people hate me because you keep giving me roses.” She goes with, “I’m not like other girls” because she likes “doing things like reading in my room, and, like, thinking and smart things.” I mean...okay, Olivia. Though the girls are so convinced she’s going home, when she rejoins the group and still has her rose, they’re all less than pleased. He reminds these girls how hard this is for them. Emily’s especially pissed about this, but “everyone else can suck it.”

Staying? Caila, Lauren B., JoJo, Becca, Leah and Emily, along with last week’s winners Amanda, Olivia and Lauren H. We say goodbye to the super sweet and level-headed Jennifer (which is probably why she’s leaving). “These decisions are basically impossible at this point,” Ben tells the remaining girls, and it’s funny because I have one super easy decision for you, Benjamin: Dump Olivia.

Though the girls were kind of sad, smiles were abundant when Ben told them where they’re headed next: the Bahamas!

In the Bahamas
The girls are not happy Olivia’s still there with them, but they’re all so happy to be in “the most romantic place ever” for their time with Ben. However, their mood is slightly soured by Chris arriving with the announcement of the one-on-one date card, as well as announcing there would be a two-on-one date this week. Caila gets the first date, which brings excitement from Caila and...bitterness from the rest, especially Leah, who still hasn’t had a chance to hang out with him alone.

"Caila, let’s see if our love is real…"
“I know I haven’t had a lot of one-on-one time with some of the other girls yet, but I needed some more time with Caila,” Ben tells the camera. Cue the montage of Ben and Caila looking super cute while deep sea fishing (was anyone else worried she could be dragged overboard by a fish?) while Leah cries to Lauren H. about how she’s worried that if she doesn’t get any solo time with him this week, she’s done.

At their nighttime date, Ben worries that Caila’s so nice and bubbly that he’s not going to be able to get below the surface. Their date feels like an interview, but she handles it surprisingly well, telling him that she feels put on the spot to be vulnerable with him and she’s not quite ready to be that with him just yet. “I feel like I love you,” she starts. “But I think my biggest fear is that I’m going to break your heart.” Appropriately, Ben’s confused, which Caila obviously doesn't want, but she wants to be clear that she’s ready to be in love. “I know I’m ready because I feel like I’m being understood,” she explains. “When you hold my hand and you look at me and you understand me, I know that’s what I want.” They both just want to be loved, y’all, and he’s clearly so embarrassingly smitten with her. “It’s almost attractive that Caila can be confusing,” he says, and they’re clearly going to be that couple that’s so cute you want to vomit and also caption #relationshipgoals on social media. “I almost want to give you a rose back,” she smiles.

On the Group Date from Hell…
For the second card, Lauren B., Becca, Amanda, JoJo, Lauren H., and Leah find out they’re on the next group date. Leah’s understandably pissed, annoyed she doesn’t even get a chance at the two-on-one. However, the other girls aren’t quite as worried for Leah as they are for Emily, who’s stuck on the two-on-one date with Olivia.

Going for most aloof now that Jubilee is gone, Leah claims she wasn’t even sure if she was going to go on this date today. Yeah, okay.

In the rocking boat, Becca deadpans, “I mean, the water is unpredictable. You know what else is unpredictable? Sharks,” which may be the best quote of the entire week and the best start to the weirdest group date. Turns out, they’re gonna feed some pigs hot dogs. “We’re gonna give the pigs...pig?” Leah announces, terrified. This may be the best and also worst group date of all time. Ben is amused, and it’s so cruel, which kind of gives us a different side of this almost too nice farm boy.

The girls are all having fun until Ben starts to pull certain girls aside, and it starts to hit them that they’re all friends, yes, but they’re still competing against each other. Ben and JoJo have a talk during which he admits that yes, they’re all having a hard time, but he needs them to understand that this is hard for him, too.

Leah finally tells Ben that she’s not quite sure why he’s not giving her a chance, but he pleads for her to make the best of the time they have together. She’s being cold and standoffish, which is understandable because she’s upset, but it also makes her seem petty. And it’s clear Ben’s not amused by her behavior.

At dinner, the girls and Ben acknowledge that this group date was super awkward and tension-filled. Pulling Becca aside first, he’s “really hoping he can get back on track with the girls.” He asks why she was so standoffish, but she admits what every girl feels: his feelings for Lauren B. are super obvious, and while he’s not doing anything wrong, these girls are still competing against each other for him.

So, naturally, in an effort to make them feel more comfortable and be honest with them, he tells the next three, “Don’t doubt our connection, don’t doubt what we have, we’re real.”

Also going for “honest,” Leah decides to confront Ben about his obvious connection with Lauren B. She “doesn’t want to name names, but” apparently, she’s different in the house than she is with him. As she’s saying this, Lauren walks up and Ben tells her what he’s heard. All these rumors about the girls’ behavior are seriously getting to him, and he doesn’t know what to believe anymore. Lauren's clearly blindsided by this and doesn’t see how this was even founded. Ben tries and fails to comfort her.

While Ben talks with JoJo, Lauren tells the group about how hurt she is by the fact that someone singled her out. Leah walks up and feigns ignorance, then flat out lies about the fact that she said something. Becca clearly doesn’t believe her, and this scene is a perfect reminder of why we watch this show: for all the ridiculous drama.

Amanda goes home with the rose for this week’s group date. Lauren B. is still hurt, and clearly it’s because of what was said.

At home, the girls are convinced it was because of Leah...who’s M.I.A. because she’s crashing Ben’s hotel room. He’s clearly surprised but doesn’t seem all that upset. He pours her a glass of wine and settles in for hanging out. Instead of using the time to her advantage, she spends it determined to not have him end up with Lauren B. Her attempts are not going all that well, however, as he’s less interested in talking about other people while they’re together. He tells her that something’s missing and doesn’t feel right, voicing her fears that there hasn’t been anything in their relationship since the first night...and says goodbye to her.

“I totally didn’t see that coming,” she says.

Emily + Olivia, Let’s sea what the Bahamas have in store for us…
“Two women, one rose. One stays, one goes,” says poet Chris Harrison, which is equal parts terrible and hilarious. Emily worries about having to be with Olivia, her polar opposite, while Olivia feels like she’s going to have to be babysitting Emily.

Rocky waters beating against the cliffs are the opening to this date, which is the perfect metaphor, while Olivia grins about how she’s totally going to marry Ben. Rivaling the group date for most awkward time spent in the Bahamas, Olivia and Emily face entirely away from each other on the car ride. “I’d be lying if I said I was excited for this group date,” Ben announced, which is the total opposite of us all.

He steals Olivia first, asking her to open up about last week. She tells him flat out that she’s not going to force herself to make friends with with these girls, while Emily tells the camera she’s hoping Olivia’s digging a hole for herself. As Olivia talks about how amazing she is and how vast her interests are, she goes for the kill and says she loves him. She’s convinced she has this in the bag.

With Emily, she goes the opposite route; she tells him she wants this to be the beginning for them, for him to know her as Emily, not as one-half of the twins. She’s opened up as a person outside of her sister, which Ben acknowledges.

Back together, Olivia’s clearly convinced she’s going home with the rose, while Emily’s less certain. Ben grabs the rose and pulls Olivia aside, and while Emily’s not happy, she tries to keep a brave face. Yet Ben tells Olivia he’s not sure he can reciprocate the feelings she has for him right now. Emily watches him walk back with the rose and hides her smile behind her cover up, though she smiles even brighter when Ben presents her with the rose. The girls watch as one of the producers takes Olivia’s suitcase out, happy but also feeling mildly surprised about how certain Olivia was.

We feel kind of sad for Olivia, watching as she waits alone on the beach for her own ride back to the house, as the petals that fell off the rose get washed away.

Before the Rose Ceremony...or not
It’s been a draining week for Ben, who’s not really feeling having to talk with these girls at the cocktail party. “Maybe I won’t find love,” he intones. Uh, yeah, see: the success rate of past Bachelor relationships (it’s 5 marriages after 20 seasons or 25%, by the way).

The girls are all super nervous for this ceremony, which is not helped when Chris Harrison walks in and announces the cocktail party has been cancelled. The Laurens are both convinced they’re the ones going home, though JoJo is also (inexplicably) worried.

The Rose Ceremony

Along with already chosen winners Emily, Amanda and Caila, the chosen few tonight are Becca, JoJo and Lauren B. We say goodbye to Lauren H., who gets walked out by Ben, which is kind of nice. It’s clear he needs a minute, hesitating before going back inside. This has been quite a stressful week for Ben, which is understandable.

Poor Ben clearly doesn’t have a break coming up, after the dramatic preview for next week. Personally, my top three are currently JoJo, Lauren B. and Amanda. Though, like Ben, it’s getting harder and harder for me each week, too. Who are your top three?

The Bachelor airs Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
