Harrison Ford reveals daughter has epilepsy

Harrison Ford got emotional at an event in New York on March 7, when he revealed that his daughter has epilepsy.

The 73-year-old actor spoke about his daughter Georgia’s battle with the disorder while attending the NYU Langone Medical Center’s Find a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures Gala.

“When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating,” he told the New York Daily News. “You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.”

Ford told the crowd that he was attending the gala with Georgia, who he said is his personal “hero.”

“She is joining me to thank FACES. I admire a lot of things about her. I admire her perseverance, her talent, her strength. She’s my hero. I love her,” the Star Wars actor shared.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which is associated with abnormal electrical discharges in the brain and can generate seizures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Georgia’s late mother, Melissa Mathison, also had the disease.
