'NCIS' recap- 'After Hours'

The latest episode of NCIS had the team responding to a murder involving Petty Officer James Muldoon, who called 911 after he came to the aid of a woman being attacked. When the team arrived, the case seemed to be a classic case of a young man coming to the defense of a young woman in need of help. After both Muldoon and Amy Harrison gave their statements, the team went back to headquarters.

Ellie and Gibbs spoke to Muldoon and he told them what happened, including how he had gone to a store and arrived to see the man attacking the woman. He told them the gun he used was a family heirloom.

Tim made his way down to see Abby, who informed him the gun was used to kill Mitchell Grafton and his prints were on the knife. Tim was sure this meant the case was closed, but Abby reminded him there was a chance the other shoe would drop.

Tony tried to call the ex-wives of the victim, Mitchell Grafton, but no one would come to identify his body. Ellie and Tim tell Gibbs about the victim, who was a prison guard who had convictions involving drug trafficking and sexual assault. Gibbs quietly pondered the man before telling the team to go home since the case seems to be closed. The only person who stayed at the office is Ellie.

Arriving at home, Tony got prepared for a date with a woman he had met earlier in the week. He got the apartment ready before heading out on his date. Meanwhile, at his home, Tim and Delilah got ready to eat dinner.

They are both “download dinner” talking, which is where they discuss work on a timer before moving onto other things. After hearing about her day, Tim told Delilah about the murder, including where Muldoon had said he was before the attack. Delilah then gets Tim thinking when she informs him the store Muldoon said he was at was in the opposite direction of the crime scene.

At his own home, Gibbs finished dinner and glanced at the case file before going to sit down to enjoy some television. However, it appeared his gut was aching so he got up to grab the file before walking away.

Tim was distracted because of the case and what he discovered about Muldoon’s whereabouts. Delilah reminded him not to be distracted before leaving for the restroom. After she left, Tim used his food to map out the crime scene.

Tony and his date, Leah, go back to his place, where he begins to romance her. After bringing up his work as a federal agent, Tony made an innuendo involving a gun before he began to ponder about why the gun wouldn’t be properly maintained.

Tim has figured out that based on where Muldoon parked, he could not have seen a woman being attacked in her car. Delilah came back and was annoyed to see what Tim did to dinner, especially since they had agreed not to discuss work after a certain amount of time.

Ducky and Palmer finished up in autopsy when Ellie came down to check on things before she left. They inform her that they discovered Grafton had been moved after he died and he was dead a full hour before the 911 call came in.

Tony continued to try and woo his date with a song on the piano. But as he began to sing the notes, his distracted thoughts turn to the fact that Muldoon, who is supposed to be an expert marksman, had to shoot three times before hitting Grafton. He then asked Leah what she thought of mystery novels.

Ellie went to Gibbs’ home to find him in the basement around crime scene photos. He had already figured out the body was moved since the sheath his knife was in had blood on it, but the blade did not. Ellie began to try and work on the case, but told Gibbs she needed more to eat than TV dinners.

Tim and Delilah get in bed and he apologized for what happened. She brought up what happened with Ellie’s marriage and how she did not want something like that to happen with them. Before they can go to bed, Tim got a text from Jimmy about the body being moved. He decided to ignore it to spend the evening with Delilah, but she became interested and now wanted to know who would move him and why.

Ellie and Gibbs arrived at the diner and after ordering, they discussed Amy Harrison. Tim had been running a background check on her before they left, so Ellie tracked down the information on her laptop. She found out that in 2005, Amy had been in juvenile detention for something that was unknown since the file was sealed.

After an hour of listening to her date go on about his job, Leah got fed up and left, but not before telling Tony to email her the results of his investigation. Eventually, the entire team all meet up at the crime scene, where Abby has gotten information from the Internet connection Amy had in her car. It turned out that she had texted Muldoon that very day and in the months before that. Earlier, they claimed not to know each other.

Tony and Gibbs interrogate Muldoon about what they have discovered, but he refused to talk. Since he invoked his rights, they couldn’t talk to him anymore. In the bullpen, the team used sticky notes in place of their monitor since it was down for the night. Tim is told to keep digging up what he can on Amy.

Down in the lab, Abby informed Gibbs that while the prints on the weapon matched Muldoon, the person who loaded it was actually Amy herself. Ellie and Gibbs interrogate Amy, who finally admitted that she had been in juvenile detention for not confessing about who was dealing pot found in her locker. Mitchell had been a guard at the prison and raped her for the eight months she was in. She saw him that day after all those years and followed him. He recognized her and she felt threatened. After she shot him, she called Muldoon, who she had gotten to know through charity work, and asked him to take the fall.

Gibbs and Muldoon were next scene in the interview room, where Muldoon admitted he was in love with Amy, but didn’t know how to go from a caring friend to asking her on a date. He is informed Amy could have a case for self defense and they were not charging them for obstructing justice.

Once the case has finally been complete, the team headed for the elevator just as Gibbs received a call about another case.
