TV ratings: 'Chicago Fire' wins Tuesday night, James Corden karaoke special earns second place

The Late Late Show with James Corden attracted a large audience last night, but Chicago Fire ultimately came out on top.

According to The Wrap, NBC emerged victorious on March 29 with an average of 9.4 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/7 share in the 18-49 demographic.

Chicago Fire was by far the biggest show of the night, earning an impressive 10.8 million viewers, more than double the viewership of The Late Late Show's "Carpool Karaoke" special. These numbers were Chicago Fire's best since its mid-season finale back in December.

Coming in second was CBS with an average rating of 1.1/4 and 7.8 million viewers. The Late Late Show's "Carpool Karaoke" episode, which aired in prime-time at 10 p.m. as opposed to the regular 12:30 a.m. time slot, brought in 4.3 million viewers, Corden's second-best ratings ever. This was the late night talk show's way of celebrating its one year anniversary; Corden took over hosting duties in March 2015.

ABC and The CW both tied for third with a 0.9 rating/3 share, although in terms of total viewers, ABC edged out a win with an average of 3.2 million viewers. The Real O'Neals was its best-performing Tuesday show with 3.8 million viewers, while over on The CW, The Flash brought in 3.3 million.

Fox's Tuesday night was not quite as successful. At 8 p.m., New Girl drew 2.2 million viewers, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine dropped to 2 million. Fans of those shows need not to be overly concerned, however. Fox has already ordered a fourth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine,and New Girl is likely to be renewed, as predicted by TV By the Numbers.
