Film News Wrap Up April 25: 'X-Men: Apocalypse' trailer and Scarlett Johansson as Zelda Fitzgerald

Today in film news, the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse has been released! Although the previous trailers laid out the film's plot pretty clearly, this one reveals plenty of awesome new action sequences and it even ends by giving fans a tiny glimpse at the Wolverine cameo. He's only expected to make a brief appearance, but this will be Hugh Jackman's penultimate performance as Logan, with the upcoming Wolverine 3 expected to be his sendoff. Replacing him will not be an easy task. The trailer also heavily emphasizes Jennifer Lawrence, which makes sense considering she has become a much bigger star since joining the X-Men franchise in 2011. X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.

Clint Eastwood's new film will be the first in history to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras. Sully, Eastwood's upcoming movie about the real-life pilot who landed a plane on the Hudson River, is being shot completely with an Alexa IMAX camera, according to Variety. In the past, directors like Christopher Nolan have shot key sequences of their films in IMAX, but Eastwood will be the first to do so for the entire movie. Anthony and Joe Russo plan to follow in his footsteps for Avengers: Infinity War, which is being shot on the same Alexa equipment Eastwood used on Sully.

Scarlett Johansson has reportedly signed on to play Zelda Fitzgerald in the new movie The Beautiful and the Damned, according to The Tracking Board. Written by Hanna Weg, the film is a romance following the relationship between F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayre. Zelda inspired much of F. Scott Fitzgerald's greatest work, but their marriage was tumultuous to say the least. This project has actually been in the works for many years, with Keira Knightley set to star as Zelda at one point, but hopefully Millennium Films will actually be able to get it off the ground this time.

The new adaptation of Stephen King's It now has a release date: Sept. 8, 2017, according to Variety. You may recall that this film was originally going to be directed by Cary Fukunaga, but when he left the project due to creative differences, the movie's future was unclear. Now Andres Muschietti (Mama) will direct, and production will evidently begin this summer. It was originally going to be split into two films, but it's unclear if that's still the case. Casting for the role of the iconic villain Pennywise is currently underway.

After injecting a bit of science-fiction into season two of Fargo, Noah Hawley is developing a full-fledged sci-fi movie. According to The Hollywood ReporterFargo creator Noah Hawley is in talks to direct Man Alive, 20th Century Fox film; the plot has not yet been revealed. Hawley has directed an episode of Fargo and the TV movie Legion, but if he signs on, Man Alive would be his first feature.

Joaquin Phoenix may be joining John C. Reilly in the upcoming adaptation of The Sisters Brothers, Deadline reportsBased on the Patrick DeWitt novel, the movie revolves around two brother assassins who are hired to kill a prospector accused of stealing from their boss. Jacques Audiard will direct the feature, and John C. Reilly himself serves as producer.

The upcoming Star Trek film will explore what exactly makes this franchise so important to us as a society. In an interview with Empire, director Justin Lin explained, "This is the 50th anniversary. I felt like it was important to really deconstruct the idea of Star Trek, the idea of the Federation and why it’s special." Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22.
