Upfront roundup: ABC previews fall shows including 'Designated Survivor' and 'Notorious'

The official schedule for ABC's fall lineup was unveiled on May 17 and during its upfront, the network released the trailers for all nine new shows coming to ABC in the 2016-2017 season.

The upfront saw Channing Dungey, ABC entertainment president, in her first presentation as president and she stressed that it was important to pair new shows behind some already strong shows in the lineup.

Notorious, the series that replaces Scandal in the 9 p.m. Thursday time-slot for fall, sees a news producer and criminal defense attorney (Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata) best friend duo doing their jobs their own way.

One of ABC's pickups for the new season, American Housewife (previously known as The Second Fattest Housewife In Westport) has been fit into the Tuesday comedy lineup after Fresh Off The Boat, about a small town suburban mom.

Conviction, led by Hayley Atwell of the newly-cancelled ABC show Agent Carter. Dungey teases that the Atwell's Hayes Morrison, "fits right in with ABC's heroines."

Kiefer Sutherland's presidential drama Designated Survivor also received a huge push at the upfronts, as Sutherland himself presented an extended look at the series.

The comedy Speechless, has a strong leader in Minnie Driver as a mom trying to make the best life for her special needs son.

Coming later in the midseason is Shonda Rhimes' post-Romeo and Juliet drama Still Star-Crossed.

Time travel is featured well this year in TV, with NBC's Timeless and FOX's preview of the time-travel comedy Making History, but ABC went the dramatic route with Time After Time set around H.G. Wells and Jack the Ripper.

Downward Dog, simply being discussed as, "a show about a talking dog," is actually much more serious in tone than expected and follows both Martin the dog and his owner Nan's love for each other.

Imaginary Mary, a midseason comedy about a woman whose imaginary friend shows up as she begins a serious relationship with a man with kids.
