Academy announces dates for Oscar nominations and voting

Award season will be quickly approaching again soon and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially released the schedule of important dates leading up to the 2017 Oscars.

On Jan. 5, the first round of voting opens and then closes on Jan. 13. The nominations for the awards will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and final voting will be taking place between Feb. 13 and Feb. 21.

The list of dates followed the Academy's announcement that they invited 683 new members. According to Variety, they increased diversity with the new class being 46 percent female and 41 percent people of color.

Indiewire has been keeping up to date with their list of predictions for winners for the upcoming awards show as well. They have The Birth of a Nation, Loving and Manchester by the Sea as frontrunners for Best Picture.

They've also picked Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) for taking Best Actor and Isabelle Huppert (Elle) for Best Actress.

The 2017 Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and will air Feb. 26, 2017  live on ABC.
