Playboy mansion sold to twinkies owner

Hugh Hefner’s home, the famous Playboy mansion, has been for sale a few months and has been sold to his neighbor Daren Metropoulos.

USA Today reported Metropoulos, whose private equity firm owns Hostess, the maker of twinkies, bought the home at an undisclosed price, although the home was listed for $200 million.

As previously reported, the mansion was put up for sale in January with the hopes Hefner would still be able to live in the home due to a life estate deal. Metropoulos agreed to let him stay for the rest of his days.

The Wall Street Journal reported Metropoulos bought the home beside Hefner in 2009 for $18 million. Metropolous reportedly purchased the mansion in order to preserve history behind its architecture. It has been part of the Los Angeles scene since 1927 when it was built by Arthur Rolland Kelly.

Metropoulos stated, “The heritage of this property transcends its celebrity, and to have the opportunity to serve as its steward would be a true privilege.”

The property has 12 bedrooms out of 29 total rooms and also has a zoo listing. It has been home to Hefner since its sale in 1971.

Once Hefner will no longer be living at the mansion, Metropolous reportedly planned to connect both estates to turn it into a compound set in 7.3 acres.
