Trailer Park: ‘The Conjuring 2’ & ‘Now You See Me 2’ hope to scare and trick the competition

The arts of magic, video games and literature have their place on the big screen this week, along with another set of sequels­­.  In addition to a follow-up horror film, the Four Horsemen are also back in theaters with more tricks and crime committing illusions.

A year after their last go around showing up the FBI, The Four Horsemen take on another heist in Now You See Me 2.  This time the magicians aim to shine a light on a corrupt tech mogul by using their sleight of hand and illusion skills to steal.  The PG-13 action comedy stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Radcliffe.  The adventure plays for two hours and nine minutes.

Strange occurrences take place at a farmhouse outside of London in The Conjuring 2. Two well-known paranormal investigators are hired to inspect the area and uncover evil spirits that terrorize those around them.  The thriller, starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, is based on real events.  The two hour and thirteen minute horror film is rated R for violence and terror.

Two worlds collide in Warcraft.  In the film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s hit video game, two groups fight for their lives as they’re confronted with the possibility of annihilation.  A man from each side steps up to take the lead and save their kind.  The PG-13 fantasy adventure is running in conventional, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters for two hours and three minutes.

The relationship between author Thomas Wolfe and his famous editor Maxwell Perkins is the focus of Genius.  Perkins, the man behind F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemmingway, had no idea what he was getting into when he signed Wolfe.  Working together had a major impact on both of their lives.  Colin Firth, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Laura Linney, Guy Pearce and Dominic West star in the limited released biopic.  The PG-13 drama runs for one hour and forty-four minutes.

Two NYPD detectives head to France to help a handbag designer find a black market distributor in Puerto Ricans in Paris.  The fish out of water comedy takes the cops out of the New York City streets and into the realm of couture and high fashion.  The one hour and twenty-two minute limited released film stars Luis Guzman, Edgar Garcia, Rosario Dawson and Rosie Perez.  It’s rated R for language and sex.

Now You See Me 2's  Four Horsemen and the evil spirits of The Conjuring 2 came back into theaters this week with a bang.  Next week's Finding Nemo follow-up, Finding Dory is sure to make a splash at the box office when it debuts on June 17 alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kevin Hart’s new comedy, Central Intelligence.
