Detroit Red Wings make Pokémon joke after re-signing Teemu Pulkkinen

The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed a Pokémon. Forward Teemu Pulkkinen re-signed with the team on Wednesday, July 13.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the deal is for one year and $812,500. Pulkkinen had major shoulder surgery last month with recovery expected to be four to six months. The Red Wings can waive him if he doesn’t become a regular next season. The Red Wings would gain salary cap space if Pulkkinen were to be waived and clear waivers.

The re-signing was announced by the Red Wings via Twitter in which the team made a Pokémon joke.

“UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings today re-signed RW Teemu Pokémon to a one-year contract,” the tweet making reference to the popular Pokémon Go app read.

The Red Wings sent out another tweet with Pulkkinen’s name shortly after the Pokemon tweet.

The tweet got over 1,000 retweets and a reply from the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to the New York Daily News.

“What’s his CP rating,” the Blue Jackets replied. CP stands for combat points which are an indication of how much damage a Pokemon absorbs in a battle.

Pulkkinen was drafted by the Red Wings in 2010. He had six goals, six assists, 12 points, and a power-play goal in 36 games last year. He has 11 goals, nine assists, and 20 points in his career.

Now the Red Wings should try to catch them all because when it comes to Pokemon you gotta catch them all.
