‘Star Wars’ actress Daisy Ridley quits Instagram after anti-gun post backlash

RIP to Daisy Ridley’s Instagram account as the Star Wars actress deleted it after feeling the wrath of other social media users over an anti-gun violence post.

The post that came with such criticism and caused the 24-year-old to deactivate her account was put up on Monday, Aug. 1, following Jessica Alba’s appearance on the Teen Choice Awards, which Ridley attended. Alba took the stage and stood with several family members of victims of gun violence and asked that the violence be stopped.

“Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence,” Ridley wrote. “I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must ‪#‎stoptheviolence.”

Well her remarks on the topic did not sit well with some and the internet trolls came out in full force to bash her. They accused her of being a hypocrite for starring in a movie, like Star Wars, that depicts such violence.

That backlash proved to be a bit much for Ridely who deleted her account before reactivating and then deleting it again. She also wrote the same message on Facebook, which was also later deleted, however, her account on that site is still active.

Only time will tell if Daisy ever decides to return to Instagram.
