Thomas Gibson gives his side of the story about being fired from 'Criminal Minds'

Thomas Gibson is speaking out about the infamous incident that got him booted from the T.V. show Criminal Minds.

In the issue of People, the actor said that he was filming the second episode of the season when he and writer-producer Virgil Williams got into an altercation.

“We were shooting a scene late one night when I went to Virgil and told him there was a line that I thought contradicted an earlier line,” Gibson recalled. “He said, ‘Sorry, it’s necessary, and I absolutely have to have it.’ ”

The 54-year-old claimed that he returned to the set and told the rest of the cast what Williams had said and at that moment Williams walked into the room.

“He came into that room and started coming towards me. As he brushed past me, my foot came up and tapped him on the leg,” Gibson said. “If I hadn’t moved, he would have run into me. We had some choice words, for which I apologized the next day, and that was it. It was over. We shot the scene, I went home – and I never got to go back.”

He never got to go back because CBS decided to suspend and then ultimately fire him over what had occurred. Reports later surfaced that it was not the first time Gibson had been involved in a spat with the production crew. In another instance, he was accused of pushing an assistant director.

The 12th season of Criminal Minds will air on Sept. 28 and the latest issue of People will hit newsstands on Sept. 24.
