Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger undergoes surgery for torn meniscus

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had surgery for a torn meniscus in his left knee on Monday. There is no timetable for his return.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which first reported the news, Roethlisberger suffered the torn meniscus in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins when he stepped out of a tackle by Jordan Phillips and hyperextended his left knee. The pass on the play was intercepted by Dolphins safety Reshad Jones. Roethlisberger went to the locker room after the play and missed the rest of the first half.

''I don't know how it happened,'' Roethlisberger said. ''I just felt something funny in my knee. Yeah, that's about it. Hopefully we'll pray it's just not too serious.”

Despite the injury Roethlisberger returned to the game and played the entire second half. He completed 19 of 34 passes for 189 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, according to the Associated Press. Backup quarterback Larry Jones filled in for Roethlisberger in the second quarter after Roethlisberger got injured and went 1-1.

Jones is expected to start Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. The Steelers are 4-2 and in first place in the AFC North
