Singer Leonard Cohen dead at 82

Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen passed away on Thursday Nov. 10. He was 82.

The sad news was confirmed by Cohen's Sony Music Canada record label via his official Facebook page.

"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," the post read.

The musician's son, Adam Cohen, also confirmed the death in a statement to Rolling Stone writing, "My father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records. He was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor."

Cohen was born in Quebec in 1934 and fell in love with the arts at a young age. His work spans over 50 years and he is responsible for one of music's most influential songbooks which include Hallelujah, Suzanne and Bird on a Wire to name a fewCohen was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In a previous interview with The New Yorker, Cohen said he was "ready to die." Last month, however, he told Billboard that he was being dramatic with that comment and said, "I intend to live forever.”

The cause of his death has not been released.
