Actress Julie Bowen criticized for making fun of Barron Trump

Modern Family star Julie Bowen received backlash over screenshots and comments she posted on Instagram about President Trump's son Barron Trump during the inauguration.

Bowen's first Instagram post in relation to the inauguration was captioned, "I think Barron is on his Gameboy. Can't say I can blame him," implying the minor was bored at the event. The post was met with a mixed range of comments:

"This is bullying. Rise above this type of action. Consider acting like a parent"

"You are the posterchild for bullying and abuse. You broke the mom code"

"I get he is not your choice for President but leave his 10 year old son out of it. Thought you were the adult. Just sad."

" thanks for that hilarious photos. It was the only thing that made me smile about yesterday."

Lotta empty space at "the big show".

Bowen took a break from Barron-bashing to comment on the fact that space outside the White House was lacking attendees. "Lotta empty space at "the big show," the 46-year-old comedian wrote.

She continued the Barron-bashing with her next Instagram post captioned, "Barron, a voting majority shares your horror." While this is more of a jab at his father, the new president, people still took offense to it. Social media users continued to threaten Bowen by saying they would never watch any of her programs again, and even resorted to name-calling of the worst kind.

But that didn't stop Bowen from continuing to making fun of the president's youngest son.

Her next post was captioned, "When your dad is boppin' his head to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. #dadshame #barronforpresident." While the hashtag Barron for president could be construed as positive it was met with mixed criticism, some people defending Bowen and saying she wasn't making fun of Barron, but was actually making fun of Trump in "light of the situation." Other users, however, felt she was using an innocent 10-year-old to get laughs and that is was "immature" and she needs to "Grow up!"

Although Bowen's posts display humor, many Instagram followers took offense to her posts and accused her of bullying a child saying, "this is kind of low," one Instagram user commented.

Bowen defended her comments by responding with, "I love that Barron is a kid being a kid," via Twitter, "My kids would be a horror show at a public event! Just trying to keep it light."

Bowen hasn't commented further despite continued backlash from social media followers and she hasn't removed her Instagram or Twitter posts.
