'The Big Bang Theory' recap: 'The Romance Recalibration'

On this week’s Big Bang Theory Penny fears that there in no more romance in her relationship with Leonard.

Penny daydreams about Leonard preparing a romantic evening for her. After a loud burp, she wakes up from her fantasy. This burp came from Leonard who is sloppily sprawled out on the couch in his underwear playing a video game.

During a girl’s night, Penny asks Bernadette if it’s normal for the husband to stop “giving a crap.” Bernadette tells her that Howard never wears pants. Penny says it’s not just about the pants. She feels like Leonard stopped caring and trying after they got married. Meanwhile, Amy gets upset that Penny is putting a damper on girl’s night.

When Penny gets home, Sheldon asks her questions about her night as he has been trying to take an interest in people’s lives. She unenthusiastically answers his questions so Leonard tells her to ignore him. She responds by pointing out that it was nice he took an interest, indicating that this is something Leonard has failed to do.

Leonard asks what is wrong and Penny tells him she feels that he doesn’t try and he takes her for granted. Leonard goes off asking what more he could do, he is the one that has been making an effort since day one. Penny gets upset and says she will take Amy on the spa weekend she won at work instead.

While Penny and Amy are off at the spa, Sheldon tries to cheer up Leonard but this doesn’t work. Leonard and Sheldon drive to the spa because Leonard doesn’t want to wait two days to resolve the problem. After Penny and Leonard talk alone, they go to Sheldon and ask him for a favor. They want him to make them their own relationship agreement. Sheldon is overjoyed to be making a contract.

Back at home, Sheldon draws up something they agree on. While they sign, Amy reminisces about when she signed a relationship contract with Sheldon, who then reminds her that nostalgia is not permitted as per their contract.

In the episode's sub plot, Howard and Raj try to figure out how to get into the nursery without triggering the squeaky floorboards that will wake the baby. After figuring out that swinging across the room will result in injury, they turn the room into a grid with duct tape. Howard bounces in each section while Raj marks off if it squeaks or not. This allows them to create a quiet and quite impractical path to the baby’s crib. Bernadette tells them that there is no way she can take that impossible path especially when she is holding the baby in the dark. That is when Raj turns off the light to reveal the tape is glow in the dark. Bernadette shakes her head and walks away.
