Best and worst moments in the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ remake

3. The trip to Paris

Okay, so this scene wasn’t exactly awful. We did get to see Belle’s childhood home and see first hand how her mother died. There is even a sweet original song Belle sings about the “Paris of my childhood”. However, I was left wondering, what’s the point? So Belle solved the mystery of her mother and she did get to fulfill her dreams of seeing faraway places… kind of. But, in the bigger scheme of things this seemed more important to Maurice’s story than it was to Belle’s. Also, the magic book was just weird. If the sorceress really wanted the Beast to suffer, why would she give him a book that let him escape to any place in the world? The film would have been tighter and this scene more significant if the backstory was revealed earlier and involved Maurice.
