Former 'Bachelor' Chis Soules officially charged with hit and run in fatal crash

Two weeks after news broke that former Bachelor star Chris Soules was allegedly involved in and left the scene of a crash in which one person was killed, he has officially been charged.

As we reported, Soules was arrested and jailed on April 24 following the fatal accident with Kenneth Mosher, who was hit while on his tractor in Buchanan County, Iowa. Attorneys for Soules previously said that their client did all he could after the accident and pointed to his frantic 911 call as evidence that he tried to help the victim and did not flee the scene.

"Because probable cause does not exist to support the charge against Mr. Soules, it must be dismissed," reads a motion filed last week by his lawyers. "The information provided by Mr. Soules' during his 911 call fulfilled the requirements of the reporting statutes. Not only did Mr. Soules satisfy the letter of the law, he satisfied the spirit. He gave law enforcement on-the-spot identification and location information and reasonably provided treatment to Mr. Mosher."

However, despite their claims of  "reasonable assistance" from Soules to Mosher before his death, the court decided on Monday, May 8, that the reality star be formally charged with "hit and run, resulting in death." That is a Class D Felony and the same as the "leaving the scene of a deadly crash, resulting in death" he was initially charged with.

Moreover, the court said Soules "did drive a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in the death of any person and did not immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident or as close as possible and/or failed to return to and remain at the scene of the accident."

In the 911 call, Soules can be heard telling operator that he was going to call right back, but he hung up and never did.

His arraignment is scheduled for May 23.
