Gal Gadot is set to star in 2nd Wonder Woman Film

Gal Gadot has been a powerhouse lately, both on screen and at the box office.

The Wonder Woman sequel is happening, to the surprise of absolutely no one who can count money at the box office.  It was officially announced at Comic-Con last week. This week we were given a projected release date for US theatres: December 13, 2019.

Gal Gadot will return as Diana Prince, (and her alter ego, Wonder Woman).

Wonder Woman was not only a film that passed the Bechdel Test, but it was also woman directed. Patty Jenkins directorial sensibility was a major key to the success of the film, according to many. A female director was able to tell a superhero story that actually connected hardcore to female viewers and fans.

However, reporting from The Hollywood Reporter suggests that negotiations for Patty to return as director are still ongoing. Indeed, there has been no official release naming her as the director from the studio just yet. Jenkins only signed a one-picture deal for Wonder Woman. According to various reports she originally thought she wouldn’t come back, as there was no guarantee that there would even be a sequel.

Apparently since then, she has had an “epiphany” that she should be the one to direct Wonder Woman 2.

Perhaps that epiphany is connected to the financial success epiphany of the Wonder Woman film itself.

Wonder Woman has earned $389.7 million domestic and $390.6 million in international box office. Last time we checked, thats a global total of $780.3 million.

Not bad for a film with a $149 million budget.

Last weekend’s box office propelled Wonder Woman past Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to become second-highest grossing movie this year

No doubt these considerations are playing a part in the negotiations. Last month, the interwebs were aflutter with reports that Jenkins was seeking a significant increase to helm the Wonder Woman franchise. Understandable in light of Gal Gadot’s volcanic pay raise.

Whatever the negotiations might be, Jenkins teased that WW2 is set in America, (which goes along with the comics and television franchise a little more closely). The first film of the series never set foot on American soil, cinematically. Instead it was set on her mythical home island of Themyscira and Europe during WW1. (which was interesting as the era is far less commonly depicted in film,

There is some gossip that the sequel will be set during the 1980s. These stories claim that the film will feature Wonder Woman in a plot involving the Soviet Union during the Reagan years.
