The first “meet cute” in Outlander didn’t come between Claire and Jamie.  It actually came between Claire and Murtagh.  He rescued her from being assaulted by Captain Jack Randall, and even knocked her out with the butt of his knife to keep her from alerting the English to their location with her screams.  This foul smelling, but well-meaning man brought the strangely clad woman back to his clansman where he attempts to defend her honor when he says “I don’t know what she is or who, but I’ll stake my best shot that she is no whore.”
