Twentieth Century Fox cancels New York premiere of 'Kingsman 2' for Hurricane Harvey Telethon

Twentieth Century Fox

Twentieth Century Fox has decided to cancel the New York Premiere of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which was set to play on September 12, in order to participate in a one-hour telethon dedicated to raise money for Hurricane Harvey that is happening the same night.

In a statement via Variety, a Fox spokesperson said:

“Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening’s planned New York film premiere event for ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle.’ To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

The telethon is titled Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief. It will air live at 8pm EST on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CMT. Such celebrities as Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Beyonce, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey, Blake Shelton and many more are said to appear.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle still has several premiere screenings coming up — including one in London on September 18. However, we still give the studio all the respect in the world for making this decision and standing up for a good cause.

So, maybe you won’t be able to see Kingsman: The Golden Circle at an early screening, but you will be able to see it on September 22 when it opens nation wide. A sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle sees Matthew Vaughn return to the directors chair and stars Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Pedro Pascal.
