Broadway musical 'Bandstand' to hit the big screen

The Broadway musical Bandstand will be shown in movie theatres thanks to Fathom Events

The Donny Nova band might not be on Broadway anymore, but the members of the band will be seen together again!

Forbes reports, “The screening is the latest initiative of the producers to preserve the short-lived show, and spread its important message that the war might not be over for some of the soldiers who return home.”

The musical won the Tony Award for the fantastic swing choreography in 2017. The musical only played 166 performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater but will be able to be seen by many as it arrives in theaters in June.

The Broadway production was directed and choreographed by three-time Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler. Music in this production is by Richard Oberacker, and book and lyrics by Robert Taylor, and Oberacker. The Broadway show dropped the final curtain on September 17, 2017.

Set against the backdrop of 1945, Donny Novitski a musician and veteran will form a band of fellow veterans, in an attempt to win a competition to be the next great swing band. “However, complicated relationships, the demands of the competition and the challenging after-effects of war may break these musicians,” as described by Broadway World.

The score is heavily influenced by the swing music of the 1940s, which you can hear played on stage by the actor-musicians. Julia Trojan will be the voice that could guide them to the radio finale. In order to win, this band will need all the talent, stamina, and guts they can manage.
