Johnny Depp a favorite for Marvel’s 'Doctor Strange' (Report)

Marvel really wants to add prestige to its projects, having already snagged Oscar-nominated stars for several key roles already. Johnny Depp might be another one, as a report claims that he is being considered for Doctor Strange. However, the actor’s incredibly busy schedule may make it hard to work out.

A source for The Latino Review said that Depp is in early negotiations with Marvel to play Doctor Strange, a character that would be introduced during Marvel’s Phase 3 films. Depp of course has a long relationship with Disney, having been the main star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and starring in The Lone Ranger and Alice In Wonderland.

Sources for Variety say that it may be too early to link Depp to Doctor Strange, though. Its sources said that a meeting hasn’t happened yet.

One main obstacle for bringing Depp into the Marvel fold might be his other commitments. He is making Into The Woods and will start Pirates 5 and Alice in Wonderland 2 soon. All of these projects are for Disney. He will also be seen in theaters soon in Transcendence.

Still, if Marvel wants Depp, Doctor Strange would be the perfect role for him. The character was created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee. He is the Master of the Mystic Arts, defending the world from dark magical threats. A Doctor Strange movie may not happen until 2016, though, following Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Just yesterday, Marvel snagged Michael Douglas for a role in Ant-Man.
