Julianne Hough apologizes over Halloween costume controversy

This Halloween, Julianne Hough, went dressed up as Crazy Eyes from the Netflix hit series, Orange is the New Black. Hough made headlines with her controversial outfit at a Halloween party on Friday in Beverly Hills. The controversy was surrounding the “blackface” that the former, Dancing with the Stars dancer, wore out this past weekend.

According to E! Online, the Safe Haven star wore a prison orange jumpsuit; along with a grey long sleeve T-shirt underneath. Along with the prison uniform, Hough had put dark face make-up over her entire face and had darkened her eyebrows and hair. Hough completed the outfit with an ID tag that featured the TV character, portrayed by actress Uzo Aduba.

Several other friends who had on matching prison outfits joined Hough, but her friends did not have the same dark makeup covering their faces. Hough had a male friend with her that was dressed up as the prison warden from the hit show as well, Fox News reported.

On Saturday, Hough later took to her Twitter account to apologize. "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

Orange is the New Black season one is currently on Netflix. Crazy Eyes, played by Uzo Aduba is a standout character and already a fan favorite.
