Tom Cruise admits in deposition that Katie Holmes left him to protect Suri from Scientology

Tom Cruise made stunning revelations in a Sept. 9 deposition, which he had to do for the $50 million lawsuit he launched against InTouch and Life & Style after they claimed he “abandoned” his daughter Suri, 7, after his split with Katie Holmes.

The Oblivion actor, 51, admitted that he had only seen Suri ten times from June 2012 and Thanksgiving of last year. He also admitted his controversial religion, Scientology, played a role in Holmes leaving him as she wanted to protect their daughter from it.

In the deposition, obtained by RadarOnline Cruise was asked, “And Ms. Holmes has never indicated in any way that was one of the reasons she left you? ... To protect Suri from Scientology?” He replied, “Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes.”

The tabloid’s lawyer than asked him, “Is Suri currently practicing Scientology?” and he said she was not.

He wasn’t happy with the questions about Scientology, though, saying “Listen, I find that question offensive. I find it, those statements offensive. Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it. You know, I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.”

Daily News notes Holmes filed for divorce last year after five years of marriage and Cruise admitted afterwards he “wasn’t expecting it.”

He’s vigorously defending himself in the lawsuit he launched, saying he has never abandoned his daughter.
