Zachary Efron was born Oct. 18, 1987 in California. In 2002, Efron began getting guest roles on televisions shows, like ER, The Guardian and Firefly. He landed a recurring role on Summerland, but later was elevated to a regular cast member. He continued to appear in guest roles on various television shows until in 2006 when he landed the role of Troy Bolton for the Disney Channel Original movie High School Musical. During this time he dated co-star Vanessa Hudgens.
The role would be enough to gain fame with audiences and earned him a Teen Choice Award. His songs off the High School Musical soundtrack landed on the Billboard Hot 100 list, though it was later revealed he was overdubbed in the music. In 2007, Efron appeared in the film adaptation of Hairspray and this time did all his own singing.
Later that year he starred in High School Musical 2, which broke audience numbers and continued to increase his fame. His next film project was Me and Orson Welles, which caused him to drop out of the remake of Footloose.
In 2008, he appeared in the third High School Musical film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year. He starred in 17 Again with Matthew Perry in 2009. Later that year, Efron hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and guest-starred in an episode of HBO's Entourage.
2010 was a fairly quiet year as the actor only starred in Charlie St. Cloud and broke up with Hudgens. Efron came in second for 2011's People's Most Beautiful. He also appeared in a segment for New Year's Eve.
For 2012, the actor starred in the Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One and alongside Taylor Swift, voiced a character in The Lorax. He also starred in some indie films during the year, including The Paperboy, Liberal Arts and At Any Price.
Efron is in the upcoming films Neighbors with Seth Rogen, Are We Officially Dating> and Parkland - about the JFK assassination.
