Blair Underwood

Blair Underwood is an American television and film actor. He got his first break appearing The Cosby Show and Knight Rider in minor roles, moving on to other such series’ as 21 Jump Street, L.A Law, and the short-lived City of Angels. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for L.A Law in 1986. His most notable TV role thus far has been on HBO’s Sex and the City, where he played Cynthia Nixon’s love interest, Dr. Robert Leeds. He has also starred in numerous TV dramas, including Soul of the Game, where he portrayed baseball star Jackie Robinson. He has won two NAACP Image Awards for his work in the dramas Heat Wave and Mama Flora’s Family.

While his TV credits outnumber his film roles, he has amassed many big screen credits as well. He most recently appeared in Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion. Other film appearances include Rules of Engagement with Tommy Lee Jones, meteor story Deep Impact, and Gattaca.

Underwood was born August 25, 1964 in Tacoma, Washington. His father was an Army man, and the family moved all over the world until young Blair went to college at Carnegie Mellon University. He majored in musical theater, and decided to move to New York upon his graduation. There he received his big break on The Cosby Show.
