Jason Mraz
Talented vocalist Jason Mraz grew up in Mechanicsville, Virginia. His first true introduction to music came about as a result of his participation in musical theater. His interest continued after high school - Mraz attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy for a year.
Mraz left the school to focus on his true calling – playing the guitar and writing songs. He eventually ended up in San Diego, which is where he honed his craft by playing in local coffee shops. News of his music eventually spread to Los Angeles and caught the attention of record labels. Soon, Mraz was heading back to Virginia to record his album. He even had his favorite group from high school, the Agents of Good Roots, as his backup band.
The first single off of that album, "The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)," became a hit and Mraz began touring to support the music. He recorded one of the tour stops and released it as a live CD. Later, Mraz added to his repertoire of music with a second album, named "Mr. A-Z." That album sold nearly 90,000 copies during its first week of release and later earned a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical). The producer of "Mr. A-Z" also received a nomination for Producer of the Year.
Mraz is perhaps best-known for his red hat (tipped to the right), frequent ad-libs in concert and clever, quick-witted lyrics.
