Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969 in Bronx, New York. Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. Lopez has two sisters, Lynda and Leslie. Lopez was sent to catholic school for her education.

At the age of 16, Lopez paid for her own dancing and singing lessons; she attended Baruch College for one semester and divided her time between dance classes, working in a legal office, and dance performances at Manhattan nightclubs.

Lopez appeared as a dancer in several rap artists’ music videos. In 1991, Lopez got a regular spot as a “Fly Girl,” dancer on the sketch comedy show “In Living Color,” which starred soon-to-be famous actor Jim Carrey. Lopez became a backup dancer for Janet Jackson and appeared in the1993 music video for her song, “That’s The Way Love Goes.”

Lopez made appearances in several short-lived television programs like “South Central,” “Second Chances,” and “Hotel Malibu.” Lopez made her big screen debut in 1995’s “Money Train,” co-starring with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Lopez followed up her debut with 1996’s “Jack,” opposite Robin Williams and the 1997 thriller, “Blood and Wine,” with Jack Nicholson. In 1997, Lopez portrayed the lead role in “Selena,” a biopic about thee life and career of Tejana singer Selena Quintanilla Perez who was slain in 1995 by the president of her fan club. In 1998, Lopez was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for the role. “Selena,” also made Lopez the first Latina actress to be paid $1 million or more for one picture. Lopez also tried out for the female role in Robert Rodriguez’s 1995 film “Desperado,” but the role went to Salma Hayek.

Lopez’s music has brought to superstar status in Hollywood. Her debut album, “On The 6,” which is a reference to the subway line that Lopez used to take growing up, was released on June 1, 1999. It reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 list. The album procured the No. 1 single, “If You Had My Love,” as well as the top 10 hit, “Waiting For Tonight.” In 2000, Lopez received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording for her single, “Let’s Get Loud,” and received a similar nomination for “Waiting For Tonight,” in 2001.

Lopez’s second album “J-Lo” was released in January 2001 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The single, “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” reached #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 list. Other singles off the album included, “I’m Real,” and “Ain’t It Funny.” To capitalize on their success the singles were re-mixed and featured duets with rappers Ja Rule and Cadddillac Tah, both re-mixes reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Due to the success of the re-mixes, Lopez decided to release an entire album of re-mixes entitled “J to the L-O!: The Remixes.” It was released on Feb. 5, 2002, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became the first remix album in music history to enter at the top of the charts. Her third album, “This Is Me… Then,” was released on Nov. 26, 2002. Two singles came from the album, “Jenny From The Block,” which featured rappers Jadakiss and Styles P and “All I Have,” which featured LL Cool J. After taking a break from music for a while, Lopez released her fourth album, “Rebirth,” on March 1, 2005. The album had only one hit, “Get Right.”

Lopez appeared in LL Cool J’s song, “Control Myself.” In 2006, Lopez released her first Spanish language album, “Como Ama Una Mujer.”

Lopez is also an entrepreneur. Lopez owns her own clothing line, “JLO by Jennifer Lopez.” In 2005, she started another clothing line called, “Sweetface.” She also has released perfumes called, “Glow by J. Lo.” and “Still.” During Christmas 2005, Lopez released another perfume, “Live by Jennifer Lopez.” Her latest perfume, “Live Luxe,” will debut in September 2006. Followed by “Glow At Dark” to come out in December 2006.

Lopez’s personal relationships have given Hollywood plenty to talk about over the years, Lopez has been married three times. Her first marriage was to Ojani Noa. Her second marriage was to her backup dancer, Chris Judd. Judd can be seen dancing with Lopez in her video for “Love Don’t Cost A Thing.” They were married on Sept. 29, 2001. The marriage ended in June 2002. Lopez began dating actor Ben Affleck and their engagement was announced in October of 2002. Yet, just days before the scheduled Sept. 14, 2002 wedding, the nuptials were called off and the couple split officially in January 2004. After breaking up with Affleck, Lopez was seen with singer Marc Anthony who was estranged from his wife, former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres. Though the couple denied their relationship, Lopez and Anthony were married in secret wedding on June 5, 2004.
