Justin Timberlake
Justin Randall Timberlake was born on Jan 31, 1981 in Memphis, Tennessee but grew up in Millington, Tennessee. His parents are Randall Timberlake and Lynn Bomar. Timberlake’s grandfather is a Baptist minister. His parents are now divorced and have remarried. His father has had two more children, Jonathan and Stephen, from his second marriage.
Timberlake rose to prominence as a member of the teen pop group, *NSYNC. In 2002, he left the group to go solo. He made his first solo performance at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. He performed his single, “Like I Love You.” In November of that year, his solo album, “Justified,” was released to great anticipation. It debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and sold over 3.5 million copies in the U.S. the album was produced by hip-hop greats like The Neptunes and Timbaland.
To promote his album, Timberlake went on tour with fellow pop singer Christina Aguilera on her “Stripped” tour throughout 2003.
He also has done duets with the Black Eyed Peas, Nelly and Snoop Dogg.
Timberlake had surgery on May 5, 2005 or a throat condition.
In 2006, Timberlake stated his own record company, JayTee Records. His second solo album, FutureSez/LoveSounds will be released on Sept. 12, 2006 and was produced by Timbaland and Will.I.am of the Black Eyed Peas.
Timberlake’s career hit some massive controversy when during his performance with Janet Jackson at the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXVIII; he tore off more he intended of Jackson’s black leather costume to reveal her exposed nipple. The incident became known as a “wardrobe malfunction,” and the phrase has since permeated the culture. The incident itself sent the Federal Commutations Commission into a tailspin. As a result, both Jackson and Timberlake were banned from the 2004 Grammy Awards unless they apologized. Timberlake attended and apologized and was able to accept the first of two Grammy Awards he won, one for best Pop Vocal Album for ‘justified,” and another for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “Cry Me A River.”
Timberlake has tried his hand at acting. He had a bit part in the 2000 made-for-television movie, “Model behavior.” He had a cameo appearance in fellow *NSYNC members, Lance Bass and Joey Fatone’s movie, “On The Line.” He played a journalist in the 2004 direct-to-video release “Edison Force.” He will also be the voice of “King Arthur,’ in the upcoming animated film “Shrek 3.”
