Michael Bolton
Michael Bolotin better known as Michael Bolton was born on Feb. 28, 1953 in New Haven, Connecticut.
Bolton received his first recording contract at 15 years old. In the late seventies, he was part of a hard rock band called “Blackjack.” The band also featured one-time “Kiss” guitarist Bruce Kulick. The band once toured with Ozzy Osbourne.
After his first hit as a songwriter, “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You,” for singer Laura Branigan. He began touring as “Michael Bolton” in 1983. Bolton collaborated with Branigan again when he co-wrote “I Found Someone,” for Branigan in 1985. Bolton also has co-wrote songs for Cher.
Bolton’s first hit as a singer came with his cover of Otis Redding’s, “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay.” He followed up with “Georgia On My Mind.” Most of his recordings are original but he has written songs for artists like Barbra Streisand, Peabo Bryson and Patti Labelle. His album include 1989’s “Soul Provider,” 1991’s “Time, Love & Tenderness,” 1993’s “The One Thing,” 1995’s “Greatest Hits (1985-1995,)” 1999’s “Timeless: The Classics, Vol. 2,” and 2006’s “Bolton Swings Sinatra.”
In 1993, Bolton established the “Michael Bolton Charities, Inc,” to aid women and children who suffer from poverty, emotional and physical abuse as well as sexual abuse. Bolton also is the honorary chairman of “Prevent Child Abuse America,” the national chairman for “This Close for Cancer Research.”
Aside from his numerous Grammys, he received the Lewis Hine Award from the National Child Labor Committee, the Martin Luther King Award from the Congress of Social Equality. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce also honored Bolton with a star on the “Walk of Fame.”
Bolton was married to Maureen McGuire from 1975 to 1990. They had three daughters, Isa, Holly and Taryn. Right after his marriage to McGuire ended, in 1993 and 1995, he dated “Knots Landing,” actress Nicolette Sheridan. In 2006, it was revealed the couple had gotten back together after Bolton accompanied Sheridan to the 2006 Primetime Emmys. In February 2006, their engagement was announced.
