Shawn Ashmore

Shawn Ashmore has been acting since he was seven years old, and although it would be a long time before his launch to stardom, he had several notable performances in his earlier days. He first began receiving critical notice when he was 14 and appeared in the TV movie “Guitarman.” For that performance, he was nominated for a Gemini Award (the Canadian version of the Emmy). He also appeared in several TV shows that made him popular among young audiences. He played Jake Berenson in “Animorphs,” which was based on a series of books. He also appeared on the Disney Channel in 2000 and 2001 on “In a Heartbeat,” a show about high school volunteer EMTs. When “In a Heartbeat” ended, Shawn worked for Disney a second time. He portrayed a cadet major in the movie “Cadet Kelly.” To prepare for the role, Ashmore attended military school for three months and took voice lessons so he could project better. Ashmore’s portrayal of Bobby Drake/Iceman in “X-Men” and the subsequent sequels is what he is best known for. His character become more integral to the plot in the sequels and provided him with more significant screen time. Ashmore has a twin brother who was born one minute before him. However, the brothers have more in common than just their looks. Aaron is also an actor. Two of his notable appearances are “The Skulls II” and several episodes of “Smallville”. Aaron and Shawn both have their grandfather’s initials tattooed on their wrists. The two have also attended auditions together, and the casting agents had to flip a coin because they liked both actors. Besides hanging out with his brother, Ashmore’s other off-screen interests include snowboarding, listening to music and playing guitar. He is also fluent in French.
