Bridget Jones's Diary
by Helen Fielding
Bridget Jones is trying to conquer the world... or at least gain some acceptance.
Bridget Jones's Diary is a lovely book that is hard not to like. Bridget is the hapless star of Helen Fielding's book, who isn't quite happy with her weight, bad habits, job, or romantic status. And yet Bridget is never really angry at her lot; she simply tries to cook up schemes to better her life. This book charts a short part in Bridget's diary, during which she intends to improve her drab life and does a great deal more than she had ever expected. It is easy to cheer Bridget on and identify with her, as she is not perfect but still wants to achieve a dream of betterment and total happiness. The story is written informally and the reader can feel as though he/she is Bridget's confidante and friend along the way as Bridget falls, rises and grows as a human being. This book is also very funny and has some endearing and surprising twists. Bridget learns along the way that to be happy with yourself is the most important thing.
