Sanity Savers for Early Childhood Teachers
I found this book especially good for the relatively new teacher of the young. Though you can always learn something new at any stage in your teaching career, after teaching Pre-K for over 34 years, I found most of the ideas in the book to be ones I have certainly heard of or have already adopted through the years.
The book is separated into 10 practical chapters -- The 4 Week Fix, Cleanup, Interruptions, Saving Money, Storage Solutions, Small Rooms, Noisy Rooms, Transitions, Cooking Fridays and Leftovers. These are the important topics that are NOT covered in teaching colleges.
And despite my own "bag of tricks," accumulated through the years, I did still manage to pick up one or two new ones. I liked the idea of having the "class helpers" wear an apron, in order to give their job a meaningful position -- after all everybody likes to dress up. I am also going to go out and purchase some inexpensive foil muffin pans for both sorting and serving.
The layout of the book is easy to digest, with illustrated drawings, open spaces and margin notes.
The author is a 28 year teaching veteran, with a lot to share.
This would make a great gift for any new teacher, who would like to learn from her years of experience.
