Addicted
by Zane
The Best in Her Collection
“Addicted” has to be the best book that author Zane has written in her entire career. Zane -- who is the queen of erotic fiction and a New York Times Bestseller -– writes fictional stories about normal people, none of which have supernatural powers or anything of the sort. Most of the stories are about romance, and each novel has lovable, get-to-know characters that have mysteries that are eventually found out by the reader. The “glue” that holds her novels together is sex -– detailed, hot and steamy sex scenes that keep readers excited for more from the erotica guru.
Her best book is “Addicted.” The story is about Zoe Reynard and her addiction to sex. Like any addiction can -– i.e. drugs, alcohol, etc. -– sex does exceeding damage to her life. She doesn’t know why she is addicted to sex, but she does know that she is willing to cheat on the only man she has ever loved in order to get exactly what she wants in bed. Then again in Zoe’s case, it could be in bed, her office or another man’s living room couch.
Readers follow Zoe from her childhood; we learn about her loving family, her best friend Brina -– whose boyfriend is an abusive midget -– and Jason, the annoying little boy next door who eventually grows into the man of her dreams. As kids, Zoe and Jason fight and think that they hate each other. As they reach adolescence, they come to find out that they really are bound to fall in love with each other, and it happens. They get married, have three kids and two successful businesses. But Zoe risks what her friends see as the “perfect life” by feeding into her desires and obsessions with other men. With Jason not pleasing her as she’d like, she meets three lovers in this episode of her life. The first is Quinton, a muralist whom she meets while admiring his work by her job. The second lover is Tyson, a chiseled man she meets on a girls-night-out with Brina. The third… she meets through Quinton. In the midst of battling and sexing her lovers -– and making sure they don’t kill her or snitch on her through unforeseen connections -- Zoe relies on her safety net of a therapist Dr. Marcella Spencer. When the turn of events become life-threatening, Dr. Spencer -– who likes to be called Marcella -– takes Zoe under her wing, teaching her how to pray and be strong.
Zane’s characters are full of life; when reading a Zane book it feels like watching a movie. She brings them to life, and sexual detail is the glue that holds the story together. In “Addicted,” she takes these positive qualities of a writer to a higher level than her other novels. The story is full of action and suspense; and for a romance novel, it’s just enough. If you ever want a really good read, pick up “Addicted” by Zane. You are bound to read it more than just once.
Zane is currently working on turning the book “Addicted” into a stage play.
