Come Out Tonight

by Richard Laymon

A wild story as we follow one girl in a desperate attempt to find her boyfriend as she runs from a sex-crazed maniac.

Another classic from Richard Laymon that focuses on his favorite themes of sex, murder and mayhem in sunny California.

On a steamy night in Los Angeles, Sherry and Duane are hot and heavy in the bedroom. They’re young, amorous and alone. The only problem is they have no protection. They could wait until tomorrow, but the twenty-four-hour Speed-D-Mart is only ten minutes away.

Duane throws on his clothes and Sherry waits anxiously. Ten minutes pass. Then twenty. And then she hears the noise from down the street, which sounds like a gunshot.

Laymon’s intensely detailed descriptions and sickly grotesque murders are all jam-packed in this novel, as we follow Sherry on her journey to find Duane, while bumping into a sexual predator at the Speed-D-Mart that will stop at nothing to have her.

This novel is filled with twists and turns, and captures some of the worst rape and murder scenes that any reader of Laymon’s have grown to expect.

This book was short in comparison to Laymon’s other novels, and features his typical depiction of male characters as nothing more than sex-hungry perverts that lose all sense of morality at the sight of an attractive woman.

However, I recommend this book, as I would with other Laymon novels, to readers that are fans of his style, as his light-hearted approach to rape and murder may be considered offensive to others unfamiliar with his work.

In any case, Come Out Tonight is a fun read, and as always with Richard Laymon, not to be taken too seriously.
