The New Feminine Brain
by Mona Lisa Schulz, M.D., Ph.D.
Understanding our personal brain styles, strengths, and weaknesses to tap into our tuition
Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz is both a neurologist and a medical intuitive who has combined her skills and talents to create this powerful and insightful book . While the title implies that the book is on the female brain, it actually addresses the male brain as well, along with the differences between the two styles. Men and women alike will gain invaluable knowledge about the neurology behind male and female behaviors. The author explains the neurological reasons for the many differences that exist between males and females behaviors such as communication styles, pain thresholds, abilities to multitask, and emotional expression. She also provides the reader with a number of easy to use tasks and indicators to determine one’s own personal brain style and identify the personal strengths and weaknesses associated with those styles. Schulz also explains the neurology behind emotional problems such as depression, anxiety, and panic, and provides the necessary tools to help individuals suffering from these problems cope with and even overcome those problems.
Schulz even shares her own experiences and hardships associated with her own uniqueness, such as her difficulty with the teaching style in medical school and the physical problems she suffered as the result of her lifestyle decisions. Her ability to reframe physical ailments in a spiritual and psychological light is not only informative and accurate, it is empowering to understand. The mixture of sound information along with her self disclosures and normalization of uniqueness make this book a true delight for any reader interested in personal growth.
The self help section is flooded with fluff, making it difficult for any consumer to find the books based on sound information and advice. This book is a “diamond in the rough,” so to speak, and the information within these pages seems so important that one has to wonder why it isn’t taught in school. What could be more valuable than understanding and normalizing one’s own unique gifts, weaknesses, and cognitive style? Everyone would certainly benefit from such a solid base of self understanding, as too many children and adults alike suffer from feelings of “being different” or standing out from the rest. This book has the capacity to provide every individual with a profound understanding of one’s own unique style and identity.
