Never has a funnier book been written on the topic of pregnancy than this hilarious account of her own prenatal experience written by Jenny McCarthy.
Whether currently pregnant or reading this book after the fact, McCarthy does not disappoint. She has a gift for finding the humor in the most embarrassing and uncomfortable situations that often occur during pregnancy through hilarious jargon, self depreciating humor, and emotionally dramatic reactions.
McCarthy shares her panic at the common bodily issues that she discovers throughout pregnancy such as “pregnancy face” and “blue twinkies.” She perfectly captures the sheer terror that most women feel during labor and delivery and goes on to address the postpartum issues that arose later on in her own life.
McCarthy’s comical tale of her own horror after discovering her “hairy, fat booty” after delivery and her emotional reactions characteristic of any postpartum woman will leave the reader feeling somewhat rectified in her own experience. Some readers may find some of her language a bit crude, but crude language meant for comical relief is a better approach for coping with the bodily atrocities associated with pregnancy than most others.
Through sharing her tale of ongoing pregnancy speedbumps through her postpartum recovery, the author proves that humor is often the best coping tool when faced with the enormous bodily transformations (and malformations) that takes place during and after pregnancy. This book makes for such a light, fantastic read that it will leave most readers wanting more at the end of the book and running out for a copy of her sequel, Baby Laughs.
