My 60 Seconds, One Minute Devotions for Kids
On May 28, 2003, Texas passed a bill in their Senate requiring schools to observe a moment of silence in order to "reflect, pray, meditate or engage in any other silent activity". This is a forty-year pendulum swing, from the 1962 Supreme Court decision banning prayer in public school, a common practice at the time.
Many educators and parents are thrilled that children will now have a chance to begin their day in quiet reflection.
My 60 Seconds, is a reaction to this latest legislation. Deborah Knapp, a proud mother and community activist, had a deep desire for the mandated sixty seconds of silence to be more than just a fidgeting pause in the hubbub of the day. This book is an easy to use, kid friendly, reflective journal for the school year. Each page has a short note to God, a quote from the Bible and a few lines to jot down a thought.
While this book is aimed specifically to be a focal point for a religion-based child with sixty seconds to fill; it can also be used by any group religious leader for children, 2nd through 5th grade in school, or at home for guided meditation. The prayers are filled with simple thoughts on basic morals, which many are finding so sorely needed in our schools today.
This makes a great gift for the beginning of the school year, Christmas or any occasion where you would like to leave a lasting impression.
