Picture Show: Classic Movie Posters from the TCM Archives
by Dianna Edwards, Robert Osborne
Great movie books for your favorite film buff.
This is a collection of over 150 classic movie posters from the golden heyday of Hollywood. Before the age of television, Internet and sleek Madison Avenue advertising, the main publicity venue for films were posters. They were literally plastered over every available free space. The movie poster was predominantly the draw that pulled the audience into the theaters, so it needed to be informative at the same time eye appealing and even sexy.
Each poster holds a story as you read the fine print and view a snippet of entertainment history. Within the fine print one can notice the supporting actors in the hits, who later appeared in different venues. For example, who knew that Leslie Nielson of the "Airport" comedies was in The Sheepman, with Shirley MacLaine in 1958?
This is not just a great gift for the cinema trivia buff, this is a film book to relax and enjoy and would be a great addition to any coffee table.
