Thepurplebook: the definitive guide to exceptional online shopping
by Hillary Mendelsohn
The definitive guide to online shopping.
This well written, comprehensive guide makes Internet shopping easy. It is divided by categories such as art and collectibles, maternity and weddings. There is also a very useful product index so you can find more of an exact match to what you are looking for. One of my favorite sections is a listing of charitable organizations, this way you can insure you are donating to a reputable site.
This is a great book for Internet users with different levels of experience with online shopping. It is invaluable for a newcomer to the World Wide Web, because it is very hard to look for an item if you don't know the best way to search for it. As the book mentions, you would get close to six million matches if you search for the word "wine! Who has time in their day to look through all that! I consider myself a savvy Internet shopper and I found this book helpful, especially when browsing by category. Although I might be able to find products quickly on my own, the purplebook provides information about shipping costs, gift wrapping, as well as a brief summary on each site. I recently had a bad experience online shopping, where I had no problem finding the item I was looking for, but I received very bad service. In a couple of instances, I never received the merchandise! It was a complete headache to continually try to contact these stores and then cancel the charges with my credit card company, let alone that this particular item was a gift that I needed by a certain date. This book attempts to eliminate such situations from occurring. For that reason alone I found thepurplebook an invaluable resource that no Internet shopper should be without.
