Breaking Dawn

by Stephanie Meyer

The thrilling conclusion to the Twilight series.

SPOILER ALERT!

When we last left Bella and Edward, they had defeated the newborn vampire army, gotten engaged and were planning on changing Bella soon after the wedding. Her soon-to-be vampire family has planned the entire wedding, and Edward has planned a surprise honeymoon. She makes it through the ceremony and is excited when Jacob shows up to dance with her at the reception—until they get into a fight.

Although Bella is downcast over her fight with Jacob, she is very excited about the prospect of her honeymoon with Edward. He takes her to an island off the coast of Brazil that belongs to Esme. They play in the water, take long walks, and Bella convinces Edward to sleep with her. They fill the next days with each other, and Bella barely notices how much she’s been eating, or that she’s been getting sick in the morning. When the realization hits her, she and Edward immediately return to Forks.

When the werewolf pack finds out about Bella’s pregnancy, they set out to attack the Cullens and remove the threat. Jacob refuses to kill Bella - a human - and splits off from the pack to become a lone Alpha. As the original heir to Alpha, Jacob is within his rights to reform the pact with the Cullens to exclude turning Bella in the “no biting a human” stipulation of the original pact. The pregnancy progresses to full term in about a month, and while the birthing process would kill a human, Edward bites Bella before her body has the chance to die.

The Volturi come after learning of Renesmee’s birth and vampires from all over the world are called in to support the Cullens. Jacob has imprinted (the werewolf version of finding a soul mate, only much more bonded) on Bella and Edward’s child, so the pack stands with them.

The first 200 pages or so are rough to get through because you can see where the story is going, and you really don’t want it to get there. Once you’re through, it’s much better. You can still see where a lot of things are going, but there are a few surprises and everything ends beautifully. Caution! This series is seriously addicting!
