A Place Called Kindergarten

by Jessica Harper

Farm animals wait in worry as the child who normally visits them goes off to a place called kindergarten.

Jessica Harper’s A Place Called Kindergarten is a sweet, whimsical story about farm animals awaiting for a boy to come. Fun and entertaining, this children’s book is sure to charm any animal and encourage excitement for school in soon-to-be kindergarteners.

The sun has risen on what seems like any ordinary morning. The farm animals are happy at the sunrise, and they eagerly await the little boy Tommy to come visit them. The horse is eager for Tommy to bring him an apple, the sheep awaits his biscuit, the hen wants his corn, and the cow is thinking of his dandelions. Normally, Tommy throws his ball against the barn wall or sings, but as the animals are waiting, Tommy has yet to show.

Finally, the animals can take no more and ask the dog, who none of them likes, but desperate times always call for desperate measures. The dog informs them the boy left in a yellow bus for a place called “kindergarten.” The farm animals worry about this foreign place called “kindergarten” and hope that Tommy will return home soon.

After long periods of worrying, to the delight of the animals, Tommy comes home and visits his farm friends. He even shares all his adventures with his animal friends. And maybe kindergarten wasn’t such a bad place for Tommy to go off to.
