The Black Cloister
by Melanie Dobson
What to learn and how to beware of cults.
The front of this book will not give you a clue what you are going to read. If you have never been around cults and learned anything at all, this book will open your eyes to the deceit that is used to keep young people against their will. It will also cause you to want to intercede for runaways. They are being taken in by people who abuse them and use them. Who would have thought a cult could be as bad as young girls prostituting themselves on the streets. After reading this book, I wasn't sure which was worse. I think a cult is, as they brainwash the converts too.
We have had a cult in this area so I was aware of some of the things this book brought out. But due to that I also can say this still goes on today.
Elise Friedman has lost her mother and no one will give her any background on what happened in the past and who her real father is. So she sets out for Berlin and to research the background of her mother. She is warned over and over to let the past alone but she cannot. She finds the background she is looking for, but it shakes up her whole life. She also finds her sister and then understands why the nightmares she has been having have happened. Addison, a friend of her Mother's, does not want her to find the cults because she knows the danger, so she sends her son to try to keep her away from them. Addison is an Ambassador and doesn't want her past exposed.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as you are pulling first for Elise to find her answers, then praying for her safety and for her to get help getting out of the cult. It is truly a page turner from beginning to end.
