Chosen

by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast

Zoey Redbird realizes that things do not always appear what they seem to be after her life has been turned upside down.

Chosen is the third House of Night novel by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast. Even though the authors give a brief description of what happened in the previous books, I wouldn’t recommend starting the series with this book.

The plot from Chosen has more twists and turns than the first two. Zoey Redbird’s life has turned upside down when the people she thought were her friends are now enemies and vice versa.

She also finds out that her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and doesn’t know how to help her get a grip on her humanity. No one knows that Stevie Rae has come back to life (after she died) so it must remain a secret. The only other person who knows is her enemy, Aphrodite. Zoey’s friends call her the “hateful hag” because of the treacherous things she did as the former leader of the Dark Daughters.

Many teenagers will be able to relate to Zoey. For the first time ever, the trust between her and her friends has broken since she has to keep silent about Stevie Rae. Many teenagers have gone through a similar experience.

To add some more drama to her life, Zoey manages to get another boyfriend (which makes it three). This book is geared towards an older teenage audience. For the first time in Zoey’s life, she has a sexual experience with a vampyre. The descriptions in the novel are very illicit and will make you want to keep reading.

Just like Marked and Betrayed, the book is a very fast read. Chosen is full of blood, mystery and death and will keep you entertained until the very last page.
