Beloved Captive
by Kathleen Y'Barbo
Romance, history, pirates, secrets, love and more.
Emilie returns home to check on her father as he is ill. While there, she learns secrets she wishes would have remained hidden. Her escort, who traveled back with her, had to return before her. So she sets sail on a ship back to where she teaches school. She is not prepared to be captured, hurt, and then recaptured in a battle between two ships. The second capture buys her for two bags of gold and foils the pirate's plan. She ends up shipwrecked, in love, captured again and on so many adventures before she and Caleb realize God has put them together.
Caleb buys her from the pirate but doesn't have to pay anything as it was a trick to capture Emilie so she would not be harmed. Caleb is shot and left wounded and is supposed to be dead. He tries to hide his secrets of his past from his career, others, etc.
There is more than one romance story in this book. You are led on one adventure after another. When you think you have concluded and are about to find the answers, things shift. Once you start this book, you are hooked and cannot lay it down - so be ready for many sleepless nights.
I love how God alters events to complete his plan in this book.
