Michael J. Fox delivers an optimistic lesson; no matter what the challenge is--keep looking up.
Most people can relate to dealing with life struggles and that is exactly what Fox discusses in his book. Fox talks about his struggles with Parkinson's disease but does not spend time discussing the illness itself. He does, however, spend time discussing how he chose to turn his disease into an opportunity for growth.
Fox discusses the last ten years of his life and the struggles that he faced. He said he had to create a new life. A life that was different from Michael J. Fox the actor or Michael J. Fox, the man with Parkinson's disease. Fox talks about learning to open new doors of opportunities and even mentions how it allowed him to become closer with his own family.
At one point in the book, he discusses the tragedy that occurred with his good friend, Christopher Reeves. He said that when Reeves had his accident, the world looked at him as if he was a superhero who suffered real human tragedy. Fox said that Reeves chose to look at the situation differently and defined a hero as an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure.
This book is witty and adventurous. Fox does a great job of explaining how he turned a devastating illness into a huge opportunity for growth.
