The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Mitch Albom's 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' is a heartwarming novel that is suitable for anyone of any age. Albom, who also authored the classic 'Tuesdays with Morrie,' uses the right blend wit and charisma to create another touching, enlightening novel.

'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' tells the story of an 83-year-old man named Eddie who is tragically killed on his birthday in an amusement park accident in an attempt to save a young girl from a falling cart. The bulk of the novel, however, takes place when Eddie wakes up in the afterlife where he learns that heaven does not fit the common misconception of a place with gardens, swings and happiness. Rather it is a place where you must meet five people who will explain to you the meaning of your life.

For Eddie, these five pivotal individuals included his army captain, his wife, and others who he impacted. As each person appears, Eddie and the reader learn how significantly he has changed their life.

Albom's description of Eddie's encounter with each person from his past is so beautiful and lyrical that you might find yourself getting lost within the words, in a good way.

Much like 'Tuesdays with Morrie,' this novel will pull at your heartstrings. Although fictional, Albom's graceful writing style will be sure to leave you feeling emotional. From the beginning all the way through, you will feel truly connected to Eddie's character.

Albom will touch you without being overly tacky and sentimental. While novels that have the goal to teach a moral at the end can get a bit sappy, 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven' is written as genuinely heartfelt.
