Hoop Dreams

"Hoop Dreams" is a documentary film that was made in 1994. Now, it is a book sharing the same story as in the movie. Arthur Agee and William Gates's story has made a remarkable impact on the youth all ages and races.
Agee and Gates were childhood friends with an amazing gift in playing basketball. It started out with them playing ball in the street and ends with them playing college ball. The book follows the lives of both boys from the playgrounds to high school and to the competition found in college recruitment. Despite the rough upbringing and bad neighborhoods, these two young men had ambition and persistence to make their dreams come true.
"Hoop Dreams" is an intimate story that makes the readers learn all about the boys and feel as though they know them. The book discusses their relationships with family, peers, teachers and each other and that is what made them who they are today. There is even an up-to-date epilogue on the latest developments in their lives.
There is profanity, but it isn't prevalent. However, it is a nice story for young men of any ethnicity to read about. You can learn a lot about following your dreams and sticking with it no matter what obstacles you may face.
