Plane Insanity
by Elliott Hester
A flight attendant's tales of sex, rage, and >> queasiness at 30,000 feet
Written before September 11, 2001, this book probably could not be written
today. Purchased in an airport shop on the way to California, I almost
missed my flight after I started reading.
Being a regular air traveller, I could appreciate the stories of
vomiting kids, pugnacious drunks, rude flight attendants and flight delays.
The author has a lively writing style guaranteed to hold you until the last
paragraph. Hester's book, Plane Insanity is about the only thing funny left in
flying these days.
I was laughing out loud by the end of the first few pages and my fellow seatmates were beginning to wonder about my sanity. Working outside as a part-time baggage handler, in the middle of the winter of '85, at 1 a.m., Hester witnessed a female flight attendant sitting in the warm interior of an airplane and made his fateful decision to become an airline steward.
After 16 years of flight service, watching full-blown airplane brawls, a flight attendant in the midst of a nervous breakdown, passengers
in various stages of undress, sex in restrooms, and passenger stampedes,
Hester wrote this set of narratives much to the delight of his readers.
He has a lively writing style and his storytelling hits the mark.
This is one of those nonfiction books that you cannot put down until finished.
